Filmmaker Gerry Straub explores how film transforms people’s hearts and can be used to serve the poor. His films shed light on poverty and its crushing impact in both human and spiritual dimensions. Gerry fleshes out the Gospel call to care for “the least” in our society through his own conversion story and with powerful clips from his many films.
We discover the humanity and dignity of people who are considered throwaways: the homeless and forgotten, the poor migrant crossing the desert for a better livelihood, the child in the slum without food or clean water. The films help us to meditate on Jesus’ call to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, visit the imprisoned, and shelter the homeless. These films are used throughout the U.S. at parishes, high schools, and universities as educational tools for raising awareness about global poverty and our Gospel mandated response to the social concerns of our times.
UNIVERSITIES, HIGH SCHOOLS, AND CHURCHES GERRY HAS VISITED

The primary way The San Damiano Foundation “puts the power of film at the service of the poor” is to give charitable organizations featured in our films a powerful fundraising tool. But of almost equal importance is the educational value derived from showing the films at churches and schools.
